rumahleo.com -The police in Sukajadi, Pekanbaru, Riau, successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a violent motorcycle robbery that left a young victim injured. The shocking incident, which took place in December 2021, saw the suspect and his accomplices forcefully attacking a motorcyclist by kicking him off his vehicle before fleeing with the stolen motorcycle.

quoted from KOMPAS.COM The Sukajadi Police Chief, AKP Rahmanudin, confirmed the arrest, stating that the perpetrator, identified by the initials AS (20), was taken into custody on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. The arrest followed a month-long investigation and pursuit of the criminal gang responsible for the attack.

A Night of Terror on the Streets of Pekanbaru

The victim, an 18-year-old teenager identified by the initials TES, was riding his motorcycle with a friend along Jalan Tuanku Tambusai in Kelurahan Kampung Melayu, Kecamatan Sukajadi, when the horrifying attack occurred.

According to police reports, the incident began when three men on another motorcycle started tailing TES and his friend. The assailants repeatedly shouted at them, ordering them to stop, but the victims, sensing danger, refused to comply. The duo attempted to escape by speeding up and maneuvering through the streets, passing Jalan Arifin Achmad and heading towards Jalan Soekarno-Hatta in a desperate bid to evade their pursuers.

However, their attempts to flee were in vain. As they reached Jalan Tuanku Tambusai, one of the attackers, AS, forcefully kicked the motorcycle, causing the victims to lose balance and crash violently onto the asphalt. The sudden impact left them with painful injuries, including bruises and scrapes on their elbows, knees, and legs.

With the victims incapacitated and fearing further harm, they had no choice but to abandon their motorcycle and flee on foot. From a distance, they helplessly watched as the gang swiftly took control of the stolen vehicle and rode off into the night.

Investigation and Arrest: The Hunt for the Suspects

Following the attack, TES immediately reported the crime to the Sukajadi Police. Authorities launched an intensive investigation, analyzing CCTV footage, eyewitness testimonies, and crime scene evidence to track down the perpetrators.

After nearly a month of relentless efforts, police officers managed to identify and arrest AS, the main suspect responsible for kicking the victim off his motorcycle. However, his two accomplices, identified by the initials AL and IK, are still on the run and have been officially listed as wanted fugitives.

"We are actively pursuing the remaining two suspects, AL and IK, who are still at large. Meanwhile, AS has been formally charged and is currently in custody at the Sukajadi Police Station," stated AKP Rahmanudin.

Seized Evidence and Criminal Charges

During the arrest, authorities confiscated several pieces of evidence, including:

  • One stolen motorcycle
  • One mobile phone belonging to the suspect
  • A silver-colored double stick weapon
  • Clothing worn during the attack (a t-shirt and pants, still under further investigation)

AS now faces serious legal consequences, as he has been charged under Article 365 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), which pertains to violent robbery and theft with assault. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of up to 9 years.

A Call for Public Vigilance

This shocking case highlights the growing concerns over street crime and violent robberies in Pekanbaru and other major cities. Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, avoid traveling alone at night, and immediately report suspicious activities to the authorities.

The Sukajadi Police Department has reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on violent crimes and ensuring that all criminals involved in this heinous act are brought to justice.

As the search for the remaining fugitives continues, authorities are calling on anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the swift capture of the remaining suspects
